About the Workshop

The workshop deals with the appropriation of the concept Reduce/Reuse/Recycle, which originates from the circular economy to architecture. The historical stock is treated from the point of view of cultural heritage, preservation of historical monuments, the careful use of resources and the defined climate goals. Students will gain insights into the digital transformation in the building industry, the use of new technologies for the recording and documentation of existing buildings, and a resource-conserving approach to the development and preservation of cultural heritage. The topic is taught in a practice-oriented way on a historical object from 1960s, the R19 building of the Hochschule Mainz. The participants will be representing the disciplines of architectural design, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering as well as structural engineering.

Specifications and skills

Participants are expected to have advanced knowledge of 3D modeling. Collaboration will take place in a shared data environment (exempli gratia https://connect.trimble.com/). The work is model based.
