general information The Faculty of Architecture (WAPW) is one of the oldest faculties within the Warsaw University of Technology, with a student enrolment of approximately 1200. It is a centre for teaching and research in architectural design, history and theory, offers advanced degrees at Bachelor?s, Master?s and Doctoral levels, where Architecture is understood as a cultural practice involving both speculative intelligence and practical know-how. Students at the School of Architecture benefit from its relatively small size. In recent years the School has annually enrolled approximately 180 students. Graduate and undergraduate programs in the School share faculty course offerings and facilities, which fosters close relationship among all students in the School. The students of Architecture study architectural issues. These start from the small industrial forms and interior design, residential, public, retail and industrial buildings, landscaping and green areas, sports grounds and facilities, rural and urban planning. Apart from design, students are taught a following scope of issues:
Our goals: providing undergraduates with a wide knowledge of art and technical as well as humanistic education and a strong foundation for additional studies in Architecture, and offering graduate students a comprehensive education in design, technology, conservation issues and the history and theories of architecture. |
the history of WAPW The Faculty of Architecture was opened in 1915 as the first Polish school of design established at University level. The main education idea of this Warsaw School of Architecture, as it came to be later called, was based on the integration of arts and construction techniques, including a wide scope of human sciences and a historic curriculum. Very quickly, this new school achieved international prominence... the Warsaw School of Architecture The Warsaw School of Architecture, which developed between the wars, may be characterised by its creativity within the boundaries of rational design and this tradition is carried on today. It includes strong emphasis on practice as part of the student's education and many of the faculty have been and continue to be actively engaged in the profession. In addition, research is conducted in such areas as History of Architecture and City Planning, the field of Preservation and such areas as Urban and Physical Planning, as well as CAAD techniques. |

admission Polish citizens and permanent residents, as well as Polish speaking EU Candidates, wishing to apply for the first year of the undergraduate studies at the Faculty and expecting to study the full programme taught in Polish, are accepted on the basis of a twopart evaluation. This is to examine the candidate?s predisposition and skills in sketching and perception of space, interest in Architecture and Fine Arts, as well as imagination and creativity. The predisposition test usually takes place in the first half of June. |

facilites The Faculty Building is located in the down-town area of Warsaw and provides academic facilities and resources that support and assist studies. Apart from standard lecture halls, design studios and classrooms, students are offered: computer laboratories, drawing, painting, sculpture and modelling rooms. Students have access to a large Faculty library networked with the main library system and the website. The Faculty also provides a Faculty Club with a cafeteria, thematic bookshop offering books and publications on Architecture from the world over, a draughtsman shop, exhibition hall and gallery where student work may be displayed, an archive with drawings of Historic Buildings, rooms for academic staff, a room for the Student?s Council and other student associations. |
